Student members of a campus pro-life group have been charged with non-academic misconduct by U of C officials for failing to comply when campus security asked them to turn their signs inward.
The signs depict graphic images of historic genocide and the group has been battling administration for years on their rights to display them.
After trespassing charges against several group members were stayed, they were back out with their controversial display April 8th. This time it resulted in charges from administration against 8 students that could see them expelled.
John Carpay of the Canadian Constitution Foundation tells 660News the university is using campus security for censorship.
"The students are charged with non-academic misconduct. The university says their wrong-doing is a failure to follow the direction of a campus security officer in a legitimate pursuit of his or her duties," he says.
Carpay says his foundation takes no position on abortion but is defending the students' right to free speech on a publicly-founded campus.
