The man believed to have been the gunmen during Friday's apparent murder-suicide at an Edmonton car dealership had killed a man as a teenager in a Winnipeg bar fight.
In 1974, Dave Burns pleaded guilty to manslaughter for a knife attack that left 18-year-old Dale Inglis dead. He spent four years in prison on the conviction, according to the Calgary Herald.
The dispute between Burns and Inglis according to newspaper accounts at the time revolved around Inglis looking for a fight over a spilled drink and a torn shirt.
They fought twice and Burns pulled a knife during the second fight, stabbing Inglis in the heart.
On Friday, Burns returned to his job at an Edmonton car dealership after serving a two-week suspension.
Shortly after his return, Parts Manager Garth Radons had been shot-to-death.
It's believed Burns then turned the gun on himself.
Co-workers say Burns had a volatile temper and was known around the shop as the Nazi.
