A Calgary police officer has reportedly been cleared of any wrongdoing in a shooting at a car wash last year.

Travis Oakes was killed when police opened fire at the stolen car he was in at the Western Pride Car Wash March 18th.

Oakes reportedly resisted arrest and repeatedly tried to ram vehicles at the car wash.

At some point, Sgt. Dave Jennings is said to have shot Oakes, who later died in hospital.

John Dooks, President of the Calgary Police Association, tells 660News Sgt. Jennings should be exonerated.

Dooks says the discharge of the firearm to stop a violent offender was a defensive action to protect the police officers at the scene, but also to protect the public from a dangerous, violent offender.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, the body responsible for investigating all officer-involved shootings, is in charge of the investigation.

The Calgary Sun reports Oakes' family says they've been told the investigation concluded the officer's actions weren't criminal.

ASIRT's executive director has declined comment, but a news conference is expected to be held on Friday.
