A Calgary man
charged with first degree murder in the beating death of a woman near the
Franklin LRT station was on the stand again Thursday.
Christopher Watcheston was cross examined by the crown
prosecutor, after admitting on Wednesday to following and then raping and
kicking mother-of-five Arcelie Laoagan.
Wednesday he also said he thought the woman was his murdered
mother.
Thursday, the accused appeared to contradict some of his
earlier testimony.
Watcheston said although he thought Laoagan was his mom on
the C-train; he did not follow her out of the Franklin
station. He just took the same route he always did when he was heading home.
The 24-year-old says he tried to explain his mistake to the
victim but she kept saying don't rape me over and over again. He again told court it was like he was
watching himself sexually assault the 41-year-old.
Watcheston testified that after the attack, he fell while
trying to collect his things and saw Laoagan was on her cell phone. He thought she was calling 9-1-1 and feared getting in trouble.
He kicked her in the head, hoping she would suffer a concussion and forget the
incident.
He said when he left the scene, the victim she was breathing
and mumbling, and he accidentally took her bag. Watcheston also claims he did not intentionally leave his hard hat and
lunch cooler at the scene as a calling card.
