Statistics from the Calgary Police departments Traffic Unit show there was high number of crashes on city streets in 2009.
Close to 40,000 collisions were reported to police last year, or about 110 a day.
And officers say most of those crashes could have been avoided.
Constable Jim Lebedeff with the Traffic Education Unit tells 660News, while there are spikes in crashes during the winter months, the vast majority of collisions occur during the summer.
He says within a matter of seconds a mistake by a driver can lead to a collision possibly resulting in death and that is why he would like to see the province introduce a law cracking down on distracted drivers.
