Canadian Pacific is offering an alternative to pipelines for shipping Alberta oil.
The railway has announced an expansion of its oil shipping service and says it has begun shipping 15 cars a day of crude oil from Lloydminster to the United States.
Commodity Broker Jeff Kaufman says even though producers would prefer to use pipelines, he says it's a viable alternative for oil companies.
Greenpeace points out there have been a number of railway mishaps, noting there was one last month near Wainwright where grain cars plunged off a trestle into a river valley.
