Close to 13 million people either jumped on or off a plane at the Calgary International Airport in 2011.
The numbers are being attributed to added flights to Orange County, California and Hutulco, Mexico.
As well, more places to eat and drink at the terminal opened last year including a north American first, Bubbles Wine and Tapas Bar.
"We had a very busy year. YYC broke ground on the two largest expansion projects in the airport's history, while continuing to renovate and redesign our current building to improve shops, services, security check points and customs facilities, all in response to better serve our passengers and improve their experience at Calgary International Airport," said Garth Atkinson, President & CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. "Despite some challenging global economic factors, our airport community still welcomed new destinations and more service to our current destinations. I'm excited about all the changes I'm seeing and the changes our passengers are going to see in the future with the completion of our new runway and terminal."
The authority says the two major construction projects underway, including the new runway, are running on schedule and on budget.
