The Calgary Zoo's newest residents have arrived donning tuxedos.
Forty-six penguins have made the trip-in from zoos in Eastern Canada, Scotland and several locations across the U.S. to reside at the "Penguin Plunge".
"We have four species of penguins," says Zoo spokesperson Laurie Skene,
"Most people don't realize there are 18 species. They tend to think of King Penguins or Emperor Penguins but there are a whole bunch of varieties."
Skene says the penguins are still in quarantine following their long journey and will slowly be introduced to each other and their new home over the next couple weeks.
"You can not help but smile. I have seen some of them through a viewing window into the quarantine space and they are just really beautiful," says Skene.
"Penguin Plunge" is targeted to open February 17th, but that could change based on how the birds adjust to their new surroundings.
