Last total lunar eclipse of the year!

Western Canada was treated to a total lunar eclipse Saturday morning.

Many gathered south of Calgary at the Star Trek Space Station in Vulcan to catch a glimpse of the rare site.

Astronomy coordinator, Neel Roberts says the eclipse was especially unique because it appeared "super-sized" to the human eye.

"It's not every day the moon turns blood red because usually it's just the normal you know, light lit up like it normally is.  But this time it looks a little bit like Mars and it isn't," Roberts adds.

A total lunar eclipse only happens every few years when the earth comes between the sun and the moon.
