A new survey shows some men believe they have no choice but to buy something for their 'significant other' for Valentine's Day.
The second annual Mastercard Canada survey shows that three times more men than women don't think they can show up empty-handed.
Julie Wilson with Mastercard tells 660News two-thirds of Canadians plan to spend less than $50.00 on their loved one this year.
"You don't have to spend a lot of money in order to do something nice. Cards, flowers and chocolates are low-ticket items and you can do a lot with them."
The survey shows most men do choose to take the more traditional route.
However, some respondents buck the trend and give rather unconventional gifts, including one man who gave his sweetheart a toilet seat.
No word if that couple is still together.
