Man induces gall bladder attack to jump medical queue

A Calgary man is well on the road to recovery after putting his life at risk in order to get help for a failing organ.

Tyler tells 660News on a recommendation from his doctor, he induced a life-threatening gallbladder attack to go under knife.

He says his doctor told him the organ needed to come out, but the earliest possible date for surgery was next spring.

The man in his 20's, who already lost more than 15 pounds dealing with gallbladder-related issues since late summer, decided to chow down on a bunch of greasy food.

Tyler says the next thing he knew he was in the ER being pumped full of drugs, and when he woke up his gallbladder was gone with some incision scars on his stomach.

He has nothing but praise for the doctors and nurses who treated him and says he empathizes with everybody else who is enduring a long wait for medical treatment and surgery in the province.
