If Calgary's youth had their way, Naheed Nenshi would be Calgary's next mayor.
41 per cent of the over 6,000 elementary, junior and senior high students voted for Nenshi in A mock election Monday. In second place came Barb Higgins with 25 per cent followed by Ric McIver's 22 per cent.
"Youth Central is so excited that young people are taking part in our municipal election today and have taken the opportunity to voice their opinion," said Ros Doi, initiatives manager at Youth Central. "We've had such great feedback from teachers that their students are more informed as a result of Youth Can Vote, and in some cases are even informing their parents. These young people are informed engaged citizens who understand the importance of exercising their democratic right."
The youth voted as part of the Youth Can Vote program by Youth Central.
