If the City’s race for Mayor is based on the forum I moderated at the Kerby Centre this week… then Naheed Nenshi will win the election.

I think Nenshi did the best out of the 9 candidates involved in the discussion.

Yes… it’s early in the election campaign.

Yes… there are a lot of debates and forums ahead for the candidates.

But… from what I heard and from how the audience reacted… Nenshi came across the best.

Joe Connelly and Wayne Stewart also did well in front of the Kerby Centre crowd.

In my opinion… front-runners Ric McIver and Barb Higgins were average and did not stand-out.

For the record… here are the Mayoral hopefuls who showed up: Craig Burrows, Joe Connelly, Oscar Fech, Bob Hawkesworth, Barb Higgins, Jon Lord, Ric McIver, Naheed Nenshi, and Wayne Stewart.

Also for the record… here are the topics discussed: 1) If elected, how would you improve the relationship between the City’s older adults and local government? 2) If elected, what would you do to make Calgary a better place to age? 3) How should current services change to meet the needs of a growing population of older Calgarians? 4) What would be your specific plans for revitalizing the Downtown West area? 5) If elected, how will you ensure that older adults are encouraged and supported to stay in the home and community of their choice? 6) How would you work with community associations so that they can continue to serve the needs of older adults?
