30 new positions added to Veterans Affairs but critic says it’s an empty promise

It was a big announcement Wednesday from the federal government.

30 new positions at Veterans Affairs across western Canada to help eliminate some of the back-log facing Canadians.

The announcement includes new case managers in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.

One group believes it is the same old song and dance.

Don Leonardo is the national president of Veterans Canada and served overseas in the former Yugoslavia but waited 90 weeks for his claim.

Leonardo said this is nothing new from minister Erin O’Toole.

According to Leonardo, what’s needed in our country is a real investment into Canadian soldiers.

“A lot of this stuff, if you look at press releases that he’s had since he’s been minister, it says ‘between now and 2020’,” Leonardo said.

The advocate added to not be surprised if you see soldiers and veterans on your door step this fall campaigning for change.
