Calgary police search for missing ammo

Calgary police are asking for the public’s help trying to locate missing ammunition.

A handgun magazine containing 15 rounds was ripped off an officer’s belt during a chase and altercation with a suspect on Monday evening.

According to police, the incident took place in the 0-100 block of Madeira Road N.E., around 6 p.m.

The altercation took place following reports of a car prowling. Police said a suspect spit at the officers and became violent when they tried to take the man into custody.

During the scuffle, one of the uniforms of one of the officer’s was ripped.

His cell phone, a Blackberry Classic, was also torn from his belt.

A search for the missing items was unsuccessful.

Police say the missing ammo poses little risk to the public since the magazine only fits one make of handgun.

Marc Mitchell Rees, 31, of Calgary, has been charged in connection with assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody and resisting a peace officer.
