High gas prices to drop this weekend

Calgarians are paying more at the pumps as of Thursday, but prices should decrease by Saturday.

GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Dan McTeague said some gas stations have tried to push up prices, only for a few moments, to find that other stations weren’t going along with it.

“What I call ‘gas bar shenanigans’ where they’re trying to compete with big-box stores who offer gasoline as a loss, in order to get you into the stores to buy other products,” he explained.

He added, most gas stations are being notified that the cost of buying gas is about $1.24 cents a litre, which is why they are charging consumers in the $1.34 range.

“However, you will see that on the weekend that’s probably going to drop four, or five cents a litre,” he said. “If you don’t like these price spikes wait until Saturday and Sunday — they’ll be right back down.”
