Alberta calls two July byelections to replace departed United Conservatives

EDMONTON – Alberta residents in two constituencies will be heading to the polls next month.

Premier Rachel Notley has called byelections for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake and Fort McMurray-Conklin for July 12.

The constituencies became vacant earlier this year following resignations by two members of the United Conservative Party.

Don MacIntyre quit in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake in early February after he was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Former Wildrose leader Brian Jean stepped down in Fort McMurray-Conklin in March after his unsuccessful bid to become leader of the United Conservatives.

Notley’s NDP and the United Conservatives already have candidates named and ready to go, while the Alberta Party has a candidate in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake only.
