A peaceful end to a long police pursuit that started Tuesday afternoon in Calgary.
RCMP said it all began after Calgary Police received a report of a car-jacking at knife-point.
After receiving this call they initiated a pursuit of the Dodge Caravan.
Airdrie RCMP Constable Dan Martin said the vehicle headed northbound out of Calgary towards Balzac and eventually Airdrie on Highway 2.
“Attempts were made to stop the vehicle by marked police units starting their emergency equipment, lights and sirens, the vehicle continued to pickup speed,” he said.
According to Martin, the van then started traveling west on Highway 72 towards Drumheller, north again on a gravel road, and finally westbound towards Crossfield.
“Where Airdrie RCMP members were able to deploy a spike belt that was successful in deflating some of the tires.”
No one was injured. Charges are pending against the man who was driving, and it’s still unknown how a woman, also in the van at the time, is tied to this incident.
