A downtown bridge was officially renamed on Saturday.

Calgarians were invited to take part in the renaming ceremony of the Reconciliation Bridge in the city’s downtown.

Treaty 7 First Nations, the Metis and the Inuit community attended the event, alongside Mayor Naheed Nenshi, representatives from the Calgary Police Service and others.

The event started at 1 p.m. with a prayer circle followed by drumming and a traditional round dance.

The bridge will also bit lit up in traditional colours Saturday night and Sunday.
