Kenney reinforces UCP stance on gay-straight alliances

UCP leader Jason Kenney is defending his position on gay-straight alliances.

In a panel discussion with Maclean’s, he was asked about the resolution at the party’s recent convention in which parental notification surrounding clubs involving sexual content passed by a slim majority.

Kenney once again said the resolution was poorly worded and the UCP has no plans to out any LGBTQ students who belong to a gay-straight alliance.

“About this resolution that passed, with an LGBTory group and a group called Parents for Choice in Education, we already got them working on a joint resolution where they agree on the right balance between protecting kids in schools who are going through difficult challenges, and parents’ involvement in the education system,” Kenny explained.

He said his party needs to demonstrate some humility and a readiness to govern if they’re going to succeed at unseating the NDP in the next election.
