Job action averted; settlement process determined between WestJet and pilots

There will be no strike action by WestJet pilots.

The Calgary based airline and the Air Line Pilots Association have released a statement saying both sides have agreed to federal mediation, and if needed, binding arbitration.

The two sides have been negotiating the pilot’s first-ever contract since they unionized last year.

The pilots voted in favour of strike action and had mentioned job action could have started earlier this week, after the May long weekend.

Both sides are thanking Federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour Patty Hajdu for her help in guiding the parties to the settlement process.

More to come…
