Canadian Blood Services notifying donors in Southern Alberta of privacy breach

Canadian Blood Services (CBS) says it’s misplaced two boxes of donation records from Southern Alberta, dating back to over a decade ago.

It says a third party stores the records for them and notified them on April 27 the papers were missing.

The records contain health screening questionnaires for 2,652 people completed in 2006 and 2008 and used to assess whether they were able to donate.

CBS believes there was no unauthorized access, and the boxes are likely still somewhere within the storage facility.

However, it is notifying everyone impacted by the privacy breach.

Since July 2016, all records have been digitized, and which CBS says significantly reduced the chance of this type of incident occurring.
