Alberta Emergency Alert system tested, but not everyone gets the message

Did you receive an emergency alert on your cell phone just before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon?

Mobile users in Alberta were supposed to receive a test, which is part of the country’s new emergency alert system.

Most people in the 660 Newsroom received the alert, although many of us did not.

Others received the alert a few minutes after it was supposed to go out at 1:55, prompting some concern they wouldn’t be able to respond to an emergency in time.

It follows similar problems in other parts of Canada earlier this week.

On Monday, no alerts were registered on devices in Quebec, while only some mobile subscribers in Ontario received the signal.

You are advised to download the Alberta Emergency Alert app for your smartphone to ensure you automatically receive the notifications.
