Residents in Beiseker dealing with flooding

It’s been a tough day for Beiseker residents, after an overland flood alert was issued in the village, Monday morning.

Public works officials have since been working around the clock to keep the flood waters at bay. Village Councillor Nikki King said her own basement was filled with six to eight inches of water coming in through the drain.

A restoration company has already been there to assess the damage, but she anticipates they’re going to lose everything they had in the basement.

“We had a bunch of people come over with pumps and hoses and everything else. So, we got the garage pumped out, and then other friends came to help us clean out the garage. Once we got that under control, we could start moving the pumps downstairs,” she said.

Mayor Al Henuset said public works crews have been working overtime to build berms.  He says the water they’re seeing is run-off from other communities.
