Tsuut’ina Nation fighting flood mitigation project in Bragg Creek

The Tsuut’ina Nation is fighting another provincial flood mitigation project along the Elbow River.

They have filed a statement of concern with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development over proposed berms along the river through Bragg Creek.

The major concern is the berms end where reserve territory begins and there are fears in a flood, debris will be funneled at speed through the community and then overflow where the berm ends.

They are also worried this would impact the Redwood Meadows water treatment plant.

Chief Lee Crowchild says he’s disappointed other levels of government believe they can build projects that literally flood the first nation’s land and impact water quality, without seeking their consent.

Tsuut’ina is also opposed to the proposed Springbank flood reservoir because it could have adverse impacts on their territory.
