ASIRT won’t release identity of suspect who shot Calgary officer

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it won’t be releasing the identity of a man who died after injuring a Calgary police officer last month.

On March 27, police were called to the northeast neighbourhood of Abbeydale for reports of an armed robbery and carjacking.

When officers arrived they were met with gunfire, and one officer, five-year member of the force Constable Jordan Forget was hit.

ASIRT says officers returned fire at the suspect who was in a garage that was on fire.

The suspect’s body was later found in the garage after the fire as extinguished, but the provincial police watchdog hasn’t released how the man died.

ASIRT says it is not their policy to release the identities of people injured or killed during interactions with police.

Constable Forget was released from hospital earlier this week and is recovering at home.
