Calgarians hit the bars for St. Patrick’s Day

Thousands were out Saturday to celebrate the Irish holiday, sporting their best green ensemble.

Local bars were busy with crowds indulging in some green beer.

Luke, who was dressed up in the full leprechaun outfit, was celebrating the day at Hudson’s on 5th, and said he always loves to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

“I enjoy celebrating the festivities, and am Irish blood so you do what you gotta do,” he said, adding beer is always good to drink but, it goes down smoother when it’s green.

The St. Patrick’s Day holiday started in Ireland over a thousand years ago. It was designed to celebrate Saint Patrick, who is the countries patron saint. It also gave Christian’s who were celebrating lent the chance to have meat and feast in honour of the saint.
