Blood Tribe police arrest common-law couple for trafficking fentanyl in Standoff

STANDOFF, Alta. – A common-law couple has been arrested for trafficking fentanyl in a southern Alberta First Nation that declared a state of emergency after a spike in overdoses earlier this month.

The Blood Tribe arrested and charged 40-year-old Fernando Morning Owl and 35-year-old Olivia Bull Calf, both of the Blood Tribe, on Wednesday for allegedly trafficking drugs in Standoff.

Morning Owl has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. Bull Calf has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.

A search warrant was executed by police at the couple’s home. Officers seized fentanyl and suboxone pills, as well as cash and cell phones.
