City waiving fees for Neighbour Day celebrations

With all the snow on its way, many Calgarians may not be thinking about the summer, but the City of Calgary says there’s a reason to celebrate. It’s once again waiving fees for approved block parties and permits for booking park space.

“It’s hard to believe that it was five years ago that we were dealing with the aftermath of the devastating flooding in Calgary,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi on Wednesday.

“We decided to celebrate the strength of our community and the resilience of our neighbourhoods by proclaiming Neighbour Day and it’s gotten bigger and bigger every year.”

Nenshi hits the Neighbour Day circuit every year and said events vary, from a marshmallow roast in Cranston, a front yard pizza party in the Beltline to a mass barbecue in New Brighton.

Neighbour Day is June 16, 2018. The deadline to submit permit applications is May 25, 2018.
