Travel: Embrace the season in Kananaskis or Quebec City

Have you figured out what to do with the kids during spring break?

It’s coming up soon in the Calgary area, with school out for about a week at the end of the March.

Travel writer Jody Robbins says you don’t have to go far for a getaway and some fun.

Robbins says take the drive out to Kananaskis, where the village is undergoing a revitalization.

“Delta Lodge at Kananaskis just underwent a $36 million renovation and they have a kids club that runs every single day of the week. Not just on weekends and school holidays.”

For the adults there’s a new way to relax, a Nordic spa.

“It’s pretty cool, because unlike other traditional Nordic spas, in other places in Canada they have all these signs that tell you to be quiet, this one doesn’t have that,” Robbins said.
“This one the vibe is totally Canadian kitchen party. You can drink, it’s licensed.”

A day pass for the spa is $70 and the kids camp runs about $20 for a minimum of 2 hours.

If you want to get away from the Calgary area, but not leave Canada, Robbins says Quebec City is an under-rated destination.

“They have the largest tobbogan track in all of North America. It is 7.5 km, so it’s like going down a ski run. You get up to speeds of 50 km/hr and you sit on this wooden sled and you just barrel down the ski hill.”

There’s also a huge tube park in the region and the ice hotel, where you can get a day pass for a tour, even if you’re not staying there.
