Curtain drops on Banff Performance in the Park series

It’s a popular festival in the mountains, but Parks Canada has announced Performance in the Park has had its closing number.

They say after eight years, the Canada 150 show in 2017 marked its final edition.

Greg Danchuk with the park said it’s not because of finance or attendance.

“We’re really pleased, and very successful on all those fronts,” he said. “We just decided that it accomplished what it set out to do, I guess you could say we’re going out when it’s at its peak with it and we’re looking forward to the next thing, building on the success that Performance in the Park was able to bring to us.”

He said they’re now focused on the next kind of cultural entertainment experience.

“Certainly no details to it, but it’s something that will celebrate this special place, that means something for what the national park is, the Banff Centre, and their interests in creativity and the arts of this great place,” he said.

The show grew from a single afternoon music concert to an all-out two-day celebration over the years.

The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity will expand its outdoor concert series for the summer of 2018.
