Calgary art auction aims to raise awareness about PTSD

A local group is breaking down the stigma of trauma victims through art in Calgary.

The chair of the Breaking Free Foundation Amber Craig told City News they will auction off pieces this weekend.

“So every piece that was donated was actually inspired by PTSD or the artist’s personal experience with trauma, so not only are they allowing us to fundraise through auctioning off their art but we’re also keeping the conversation going,” she said.

Craig added the money raised will go towards therapy grants that gives people suffering from PTSD high-quality specialized psychology.

The fundraising event features live music and spoken word poetry also inspired by trauma performed by many of their clients.

It all starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Railyard Brewing in the Northeast, tickets are $25 through Eventbrite.
