New study shows Alberta needs to do better to attract mineral and metal mining

A new study shows more can be done in Alberta to make the province attractive for mineral and metal mining.

The Fraser Institute asked mining company executives to rank jurisdictions for attractiveness to do business and Alberta finished second last in the country.

Author Kenneth Green said government policies and regulations are the concern for most respondents.

“Uncertainty about environmental regulations, uncertainty about regular, existing regulations and the enforcement thereof and concerns about regulatory duplication and inconsistencies,” he said.

He said those policies were also ranked 49th out of 91 jurisdictions worldwide.
