Alberta Environment Minister standing ground on pipeline dispute

Alberta’s Environment Minister won’t be doing a normal British Columbia trip this summer, nor does she have any plans to speak with her counterpart in the B.C. government.

Shannon Phillips usually goes to the Shuswap Lake area every summer with her family, but with the ongoing dispute regarding the Trans Mountain Pipeline, she said she’ll stick to Alberta.

As for possible talks with B.C. Environment Minister George Heyman: “I think it’s sufficed to say that once minister Heyman takes away his proposal to act unconstitutionally and against Alberta’s best interest and in a way that, that undermines national action on climate change, if he smartens up then he can have a conversation with me.”

Phillips made the comments after announcing new rebates for oil and gas companies Wednesday.

As of December over 1,200 companies have switched to energy-efficient products, as part of the business, non-profit and institutional rebate program.
