Hitmen fall 5-1 to Saskatoon

Braylon Shmyr recorded a hat-trick in his hometown to lead the Saskatoon Blades past the Calgary Hitmen 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Blades, who built period leads of 1-0 and 2-1, broke the game open with three goals in the final six minutes of the third period.

Rookie goaltender Nolan Maier played a key role making 32 saves to record the win.

Max Gerlach (1g, 1a) and Brad Goethals also scored for Saskatoon.

Jakob Stukel, with his team-leading 27th, connected for Calgary’s lone marker.

The Hitmen, 1-2 on their season-high seven-game home stand, are back in the ’Dome Wednesday, Feb. 23 to host Red Deer.

The home stand will also see Calgary host Edmonton (Feb. 23), Brandon (Feb. 25) and Swift Current (Feb. 27).
