Firefighters prevent blaze from spreading to home

A close call for the residents of a home in Calgary’s southwest Saturday morning.

Luckily they happened to be awake just before 3:30 when they spotted their garage on fire.

Acting District Chief Gordon Best tells 660 NEWS the fire was out of control when they arrived at the scene in the 7800 block of Old Banff Coach Road.

“It was fully involved so that meant the flames were obviously coming through the roof and the crews just managed to get water on it quick enough to knock the fire down before it go into the adjacent house,” says Best.

He says the residents have had to find somewhere else to go until their power is restored.

The department remained on fire watch late in the morning to make sure it didn’t spark up again.

No one was hurt.
