‘It’s a terrifying world to be an Indigenous woman’: Calgarians march for murdered, missing

Hundreds gathered at Calgary’s Scarboro United Church Wednesday evening to march in solidarity for missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Organizers held their annual Valentine’s Day event to draw attention to the issue and to inform Canadians, more needs to be done.

Chantal Changon said the event is about healing and coming together, as a people.

“[Wednesday night was] about building allies, it’s about sharing those stories, and changing people’s views about what it is to be a family member of a murdered and missing Indigenous woman, what it is to be an Indigenous woman. It’s a terrifying world to be an Indigenous woman,” she said.

It’s still unclear how many are missing in our country.

RCMP say the number is close to 1,200 while activists say it’s closer to 4,000.
