SCIENCE SHIP: Bitcoin energy & the speed of light

Digital currency may be the future, but just generating it can be an expensive proposition.

Some estimates peg the amount of power needed to generate a bitcoin as the same needed to power the average house for two years.

660’s Jonathan Muma hopped on board the Science Ship with Saint Mary’s University Astrophysicist Dr. Rob Thacker who said those estimates probably aren’t that far off:

 

There are some strange theories out there questioning whether it’s possible to move faster than the speed of light.

One in particular asks: if you have a pole longer than a light year resting on a button and push the pole, is the action of pushing the button happening faster than the speed of light?
