‘Gorgeous angel’: Airdrie mom remembers son after fatal carbon monoxide leak

An Airdrie woman is calling her son a “gorgeous angel” after he died from being exposed to carbon dioxide in their apartment.

Elysha Schlichter says her 12-year-old son Trai was sleeping Sunday while he was exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide.

EMS was called to the apartment on Willowbrook Road at about 9 a.m. for reports of a boy in medical distress.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

On Facebook, Schlichter thanks people for reaching out to her.

She also said this could have been prevented if the building owners or landlords installed carbon monoxide detectors.

A GoFundMe page has been created to support the family. Because of the investigation, the apartment is not accessible and the family cannot collect its belongings.
