Airlines top list of complaints to Better Business Bureau last year

Calgarians complained about airline customer service the most in 2017.

The Better Business Bureau has compiled a list of the top complaints and inquiries last year.

Brownridge said they heard 145 grievances about things like cancelled flights, and lack of accommodations or re-imbursements.

Florists and car dealerships also saw their fair share of gripes.

“This time we did see more complaints from a particular florist company and they are working with us to rectify those complaints and work with consumers to get their company back on track,” she said.

“It was kind of a unique situation — but the kinds of complaints that we did see come through were failed deliveries, you know people that were ordering flowers to be delivered to somebody else or even wrong deliveries.”

Brownridge said this is all important feedback.

“Even if (customers) may not think it is of value, it really is. Once businesses and consumers have had that chance to hopefully rectify a situation on their own, we do publish those complaint details online so that other people can go and look at a company’s BBB business review. They can see their letter grade rating, they can see the complaints, they can see the customer reviews and make an informed decision,” she said.

And they aren’t just hearing complaints.

Over 41,000 inquiries came in about roof contracting, and over 36,000 were put in about home renovations.

“When it comes to any kind of contracting job, whether it’s with a home or even as a business owner, and you’re looking to have some work done at your place of business, you want to make sure you’re doing that research and making sure that you have all of that paperwork in place, before you sign anywhere on a dotted line or exchange money,” Brownridge said.
