Late owners of Lloyd’s Roller Rink donating estate to charity

It’s the end of an era.

Lloyd’s Roller Rink is closing down after 50 years in business.

660’s Sandra Prusina is learning more from one of the establishment’s managers.

Manager Austin Giles told Breakfast Television the closure comes at the request of the late owners Flo and Lloyd Cooper.

“It was in their will that when they both passed away that their entire estate, not just Lloyd’s Roller Rink, but Lloyd was also involved in many other business ventures and there property, and everything is going to be sold,” said Giles. “It’s all worth about $18 million and that’s being donated to charities on their behalf, because they were very focused on giving back to the community.”

That money will go towards the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and Calgary Health Trust.

The last skate at the roller rink is February 18, 2018.
