Winter weather arrives in Calgary

Right on schedule, the snow train is pulling into the Calgary station.

A snowfall warning is in effect for much of Southern Alberta.

Meteorologist Andrew Schultz said Tuesday’s total will be anywhere between 10 and 20 centimetres, with most of that coming through the overnight period.

“We knew that the commute would be not so easy Tuesday afternoon,” said Schultz.

As Tuesday moves on, so will the snow, as it spreads eastward through the Lethbridge and Brooks regions.

However, 15 to 25 centimetres will be on the ground by Wednesday evening.

“Wednesday morning could be the worst commute of the year and that’s still ahead of the arrival of winter which is Thursday morning,” he said.

The weather will be worse to the south and west of the city. A winter storm warning is in place for several areas including Cardston, Fort Macleod and Magrath as well as Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, Kananaskis and Canmore.
