Hitmen fall 4-3 in OT to Kootenay

Jonathan Smart scored 30 seconds into extra time to lift the Kootenay ICE to a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The ICE forced overtime when Alec Baer netted the equalizer with 3:13 remaining in the third period.

Michael King and Cameron Hausinger rounded out the scoring for Kootenay to complete a home-and-home sweep of the Hitmen.

Calgary was unable to build on their strong start that pushed them to a 3-1 first period lead on markers from Jakob Stukel, Andrew Fyten and Mark Kastelic.

Jake Kryski was held off the scoresheet for the first time in seven games snapping his career high six-game point streak.

The Hitmen, now 10-18-4-1, will take in a nine-day holiday break before returning to action on Wednesday, December 27, in the start of another home-and-home set with the ICE.

The series begins in Cranbrook before shifting to Calgary on Thursday, December 28, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the ’Dome.
