Back-to-back weather systems bringing snow to Calgary

One weather system after another will blast snow into Calgary this week and it will likely stick around to set the backdrop for a white Christmas. Environment Canada said an upper level disturbance will move across southern Alberta on Sunday.
“Calgary will begin to see snow overnight, tonight, and that snow is expected to persist throughout the day on Monday before ending Monday evening,” said meteorologist Heather Pimiskern. “Snowfall accumulations with this system could be anywhere from two to four centimetres.”

Mother Nature is about to set the scene for the holidays very soon. Environment Canada is tracking a second system that is expected to roll into Calgary on Tuesday. That forecast calls for 10 cm of snow during the day and 10 to 15 cm that night.

So is it cool enough to have a white Christmas in Calgary?

“It’s entirely possible, yes. With the colder air surging southward we are looking at temperatures in and around
-10 degrees. So it’s entirely possible that snow will stick around for the holiday season.”

The average low for this time of year is about -13 degrees according to Environment Canada.
