Fore! Mild December weather drives Calgarians to links

Some Calgarians are taking advantage of the balmy December weather by working on their golf swing.

The Fox Hollow Golf Course is open in the northeast after getting a number of inquiries about booking tee times in the warm weather.

Head golf pro Greg Griffith said all the snow on the course melted last week and it usually opens on temporary greens even throughout the winter.

“We’ve been open as late as Christmas Day before,” said Griffith. “Not very often in January, but every time someone comes they’re just happy to be here. We had someone drive down from Edmonton.”

“There’s no snow or ice out there where someone could slip. We want the person to enjoy themselves regardless that it’s on temporary greens. It’s not summertime conditions, but people are outside playing golf.”

Griffith added the course is likely going to stay open until Thursday or Friday.

We’ll see a cool down in the temperatures toward week’s end. The extended forecast shows a high of 3C on Friday and 4C on Saturday.
