Council votes for CPS budget increase

Calgary city council has granted the Calgary Police Service’s wish to have their budget increased by $20.8-million dollars as part of their on-going budget deliberations.
The Chair of the Calgary Police Commission says he’s pleased city council has approved their request.
The money will go towards hiring more officers and buying body-worn cameras.
In a statement, CPC Chair Brian Thiessen says they’re thankful and realize it was a difficult decision considering the current economic climate, but he says the increase is necessary to ensure the service has sufficient resources to keep the city safe.
