Calgary family shelter putting out holiday donation request

Inn from the Cold is hoping Calgarians will be in a giving mood over the holidays.

Executive Director Abe Brown said a big need this year is new childcare supplies.

“Baby bottles, baby wipes, strollers, diapers sizes particularly 4, 5 and 6,” he said. “We’ve also found footwear this year seems to be an issue and of course that’s obviously winter foot wear but also runners for some reason we are a little short on those for both boys and girls.”

Brown said something small goes a long way.

“Given that it is the holiday season we would also love to get gift cards and passes to events like the zoo, movie tickets or city rec centres just so when the children have time off around Christmas break they will have the opportunity to do that.”

The centre has been operating at or over capacity since April forcing the organization to open its emergency over-flow shelter dozens of times.

Anyone can drop off new items at the centre, give cash donations or sign up to volunteer at innfromthecold.org.
