Hitmen fall in Swift Current

Tyler Steenbergen scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift the Swift Current Broncos to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday night at Credit Union iPlex.

Broncos rookie goaltender Joel Hofer was outstanding making 41 saves through overtime before stopping all three Hitmen attempts in the shootout.

Jake Kryski was the only player to beat Hofer, forcing overtime for Calgary with 6:17 remaining in the third period. Tristen Nielsen drew an assist on the power play marker to extend his point scoring streak to four games. The 17-year-old Hitmen forward now has six points (2G, 4A) in his last four games.

After a scoreless first period, Sahvan Khaira tallied the lone goal in regulation for Swift Current in the middle frame. The victory improves the CHL’s number six ranked Broncos to 15-4-1-0.

The Hitmen, 6-13-3-1, will now head back to Calgary to get ready to host Cody Glass and the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
