Free symposium teaches women financial literacy

It’s Financial Literacy Month and experts say many Canadians continue to struggle with their finances.

They say women in particular often need more financial education.

The Calgary Women’s Wealth Symposium is designed to help.

Financial advisor Shamez Kassam says people tend to make big financial mistakes that were entirely preventable.

“Our schools don’t do a great job of teaching personal finance and so what we’re going to do is cover the essentials of investing, insurance and estate planning as well as how to find the right advice if you need it,” said Kassam.

Kassam says the idea is to better equip women to deal with their family’s finances.

The symposium is being held at Sunpark Plaza in Calgary’s southeast on Saturday, November 18.

At last word, there were still some spots left.
