Homicide investigators spoke with witnesses and surrounding businesses near the scene of a fatal shooting in northwest Calgary on Saturday.
Calgary Police Service was called to the 4600 block of Bowness Road N.W. at about 5:30 a.m. for reports of a man in medical distress.
“When officers arrived they found a man in his 40s who had sustained critical injuries as the result of a shooting,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Kevin Dyrgas.
Paramedics transported the man to hospital where he died shortly after. There were initial reports of a search for a suspect vehicle, but Dyrgas could not confirm that when speaking to reporters late Saturday morning. He said police are speaking with a woman who was with the man at the time of the shooting and investigators believe this was a targeted attack.
“At this point there is no reason to believe this is random,” said Dyrgas.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
